The summer semester at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences has begun. A total of 509 students have enrolled in Krefeld and Mönchengladbach. This is almost the same number as last year. Traditionally, enrolment figures are significantly lower in the summer semester, as it is mainly Master's degree programmes that start.
The trend for the orientation semester in the technical sciences of chemistry, electrical engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, process engineering and industrial engineering continues to be positive. In this format, young people can take courses in all technical fields and find out which subject suits them best. In the summer semester of 2025, 123 people opted for this branch. At the same time last year, 80 people were enrolled.
"We are very pleased that we were able to stabilise our numbers in the summer semester and even increase them in some cases. The positive response to our orientation semester is particularly pleasing - it confirms that we are on the right track with the modernisation of our engineering sciences. Our aim is to consistently and systematically integrate this orientation phase into our new engineering degree programmes in the future. We are currently working intensively on developing the future degree programmes to fit perfectly. I am convinced that we will be able to meet the needs of the students as well as the demand for skilled workers in the regional economy in the long term," says University President Dr Thomas Grünewald.
Of the 378 first-semester students on the Bachelor's degree programme, 202 are on the part-time business studies, business administration, taxation and auditing and business informatics courses. These degree programmes are all based at the Faculty of Business and Economics in Mönchengladbach. In Krefeld, 53 first-semester students are starting on the Applied Therapy Sciences and Nursing degree programmes at the Department of Healthcare.
In the Master's area, exactly 25 degree programmes with 184 students will start in the 2025 summer semester. Among them, the English-language Master's in Management of Textile Trade and Technology at the Faculty of Textile and Clothing Technology, the Master's in Business Management at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics and the Master's in Social Work at the Faculty of Social Work have the most enrolments.
