Award ceremony at the Faculty of Textile and Clothing Technology

Ramona Maria Jasny receives the award of the Association of the Rhenish Textile and Clothing Industry for her outstanding thesis presented by Prof. Dr. Kleinebrink.

She wrote her master's thesis "Analysis of the effect of different washing programs and detergents as well as fabric softeners on the microplastic release from synthetic textiles", under Prof. Dr. Rabe, in cooperation with the company Henkel, where she is now also starting her professional career. The master's thesis was about microplastics from household washing machines. At the beginning, a method was developed to investigate microplastic emissions from synthetic textiles. Then, the effect of different washing parameters on microplastic release was analyzed.

Ms. Johanna Sophie Peselmann receives the award of the Textile and Fashion Network e.V. for an outstanding thesis in 2020/2021.

Her thesis "Sustainable procurement and nearshoring: development of a procurement guideline and empirical review" was supervised by Prof. Dr. Eigenstetter.

The master's thesis pursues the question, in how far Nearshoring can be part of a lasting procurement strategy. To answer this question, various production countries are examined and CO2 emissions and working conditions are evaluated. In addition, interviews were conducted with experts from the apparel industry. An initially counterintuitive result is that nearshoring offers fewer sustainability advantages over offshoring than one might initially assume. The findings were translated into a procurement guide for sustainable sourcing.

The award was presented by Prof. Dr. Vossebein on behalf of Mr. Markus Schmitz.
