How do I recognise harassment?

Verbal harassment

  • Disparaging and/or sexualised statements, e.g. about physical characteristics, appearance, clothing, etc.
  • Discriminatory jokes, sayings
  • Inappropriate compliments
  • Indiscreet "questioning" about lifestyle/love life
  • Unwanted contact Stalking (in person and/or digitally)

Non-verbal harassment

  • Sexualised gestures
  • Repeated and persistent, appraising glances
  • Indecent exposure
  • Whistling/calling etc. ("cat calling")
  • Showing and distributing pornographic material
  • Inappropriate gifts and the like that are accompanied by or threaten disadvantages
  • Exploiting the relationship of dependency in the apprenticeship/workplace and promising advantages or threatening disadvantages

Physical harassment

  • Seemingly accidental touching
  • Unwanted physical closeness, e.g. patting, massaging and hugging
  • Repeated undesired failure to maintain social distance
  • Physical violence such as grabbing of genitals, buttocks, breasts, etc. (Attempted) rape
  • Forcing sexual favours (e.g. abuse of power) or actions (coercion)

Sexualised violence and discrimination refers to any psychological, physical or verbal behaviour with a sexual connotation that is perceived by the person affected as transgressive, i.e. unwanted and degrading or hurtful

Perpetrators do not (only) act out of a sexual intention. Sometimes it is about power and superiority.

Flirtation, love, desire, etc. require mutual interest and agreement. The foundation course is consensus.
