Three new Vice Presidents elected

The HSNR electoral assembly elected three new Vice Presidents yesterday. Professor Dr. Gudrun Stockmanns (Studies & Teaching Education), Professor Dr. Kathleen Diener (Research) and Professor Dr. Donja Amirpur (Third Mission and Student Recruitment) will join President Dr. Thomas Grünewald and Chancellor Professor Dr. Fabienne Köller-Marek on 1 September.

Professor Dr. Berthold Stegemerten (former Vice President for Studies & Teaching Education) is leaving the Executive Board at his own request after ten years and will return to the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics.

Professor Dr. Dr. Alexander Prange (former Vice President Research & Transfer) will also leave the Executive Board at his own request at the end of his term of office. He was appointed Professor of Microbiology and Food Hygiene at the Faculty of Food and Nutrition Sciences in 2005 and has been a member of the HSNR Executive Board since 2010.

Campus week
May 21 to 24, 2024

Campus Week will take place at the Krefeld and Mönchengladbach campuses from May 21 to 24, 2024. The Faculties of Design, Oecotrophology, Applied Social Sciences, Textile and Clothing Technology, Business Administration and Economics, Business Administration and Nutrition Sciences and Health Care are taking part in this run.

There are no timetabled or compulsory courses in participating faculties during this week in order to give students and lecturers space for innovative projects and other initiatives. The offers are aimed at all HSNR students, so that students from non-participating faculties can also take part in offers from other faculties according to their timetable.

In addition to the offers of the faculties, central teams and work areas also participate with an exciting program. Students can take part in (sometimes interdepartmental) projects, workshops or compulsory optional courses.

The Hochschule Niederrhein has been distinguished as a Fairtrade University. Students and representatives of the HSNR accepted the certificate from Dieter Overath, former Chairman of the Board of Fairtrade Germany (front center).
Fairtrade University distinction

The Fairtrade Germany organization has distinguished us as a Fairtrade University for our commitment to fair trade. We are one of 44 universities in Germany that integrate products with high social, ecological and economic standards into everyday university life and promote fair trade.

In order to receive this title, we had to fulfill various criteria: We offer fair trade products in our canteens and snack vending machines in Krefeld and Mönchengladbach. At Senate meetings, we make sure that coffee is served under fair production conditions and that caterers use sustainable food. In addition, we regularly organize campaigns such as information stands on fair trade for our students.

"It is important to us to sensitize our students, as future decision-makers in our society, to sustainability issues in line with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. Fair trade is an important aspect of achieving these goals. By participating in the Fairtrade University campaign, we can introduce our students to the topic in concrete projects," says Cornelia Rohde, graduate ecotrophologist at the Faculty of Food and Nutrition Sciences at HSNR.

DHM Athletics in Duisburg
May 09

Every year, the German University Sports Association (adh) organizes around 40 German University Championships (DHM) in over 30 sports.

This year's DHM Athletics will take place in Duisburg on Thursday, May 9, 2024, and will be hosted by The Hochschule Niederrhein and Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences. More than 400 student athletes from all over Germany and neighboring countries will take part in this high-class sporting event.

Spectators can expect exciting competitions with outstanding performances in a very special atmosphere.

As organizers, we are particularly pleased about the participation of four HSNR students who will be competing for The Hochschule Niederrhein in various disciplines.

We wish them every success!
