Award for lecturers at the Hochschule Niederrhein

Around 300 people teach at the Hochschule Niederrhein. Two of them have now been awarded the distinction for outstanding achievements in teaching education: Prof. Dr. Anne-Friederike Hübener from the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences and Prof. Dr. Matthias Mertin from the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences.

Students and the college had nominated 28 individuals and teams for the annual award, 18 of whom applied. Hübener and Mertin will officially receive the honor for their teaching concepts on February 9th at the Senate Award Ceremony at the Mönchengladbach campus.

The nine-member jury emphasizes the commitment of Prof. Dr. Hübener, who has consistently oriented the course "Biopsychosocial Models of Human Experience and Behavior" in the Master's degree programme in Social Work towards self-directed and collaborative work. Thanks to her didactically sophisticated concept, the approximately 30 students acquire a case-based multi-perspective view - an important building block in professionalization for the future profession.

Prof. Dr. Mertin was particularly convincing with a concept that strengthens the self-efficacy experience of the bachelor students of nursing in the module "Communication and Reflection as an Expression of Professional Action". This also includes involving external actors in the design of a symposium co-organized by students.

Two applications also made it onto the shortlist. Prof. Dr. Daniela Hayder-Beichel (Health Care) was chosen for her module "Fundamentals of Scientific Work" in the dual degree programme Nursing. In this module, Hayder-Beichel not only emphasizes good advising and support services, but also the integration of the students' practical work experience.

Prof. Dr. Christof Menzel from the Faculty of Food and Nutrition Sciences (B.Sc.) also received a Short List nomination for his bachelor courses "Mathematics - Statistical Foundations" and "Mathematics in Nutrition Sciences". The jury was particularly impressed by the methodical and didactic variety of courses offered to get students interested in the reference science, which is often perceived as difficult.

Prof. Dr. Berthold Stegemerten, Vice President for Studies and Teaching Education, was impressed by the very good quality of the 18 applications.
