Hochschule Niederrhein. Your way.
The Hochschule Niederrhein is launching a new Bachelor's degree programme in Applied Psychology - Specialization in Health in the winter semester 2024/25.

New at HSNR: Study "Applied Psychology - Specialization in Health" from winter semester onwards

The Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) is once again setting innovative standards in the higher education landscape: this winter semester, it is introducing the brand new "Applied Psychology - Specialization in Health" degree programme. This makes the HSNR one of the first public universities in Germany to offer these studies.

The Bachelor's degree program is regularly designed for six semesters of full-time study and is based in the two faculties of Applied Social Sciences and Health. Lectures take place mainly at the Krefeld South Campus, but occasionally also at the Mönchengladbach Campus.

The application period is from May 1 to July 15. Anyone wishing to submit an application should register on the HSNR online portal and upload the required documents.

The degree program starts with 50 places for those interested with a subject-restricted higher education entrance qualification or a general higher education entrance qualification as well as for those with a professional qualification. Admission to "Applied Psychology - Specialization in Health" is restricted by a numerus clausus. How high this is depends on supply and demand and cannot be clearly quantified in advance.

In comparison to university degree programmes, the application focus clearly stands out as a unique selling point. It offers an interdisciplinary, practical emphasis / orientation in health psychology, which is based on the recommendations of the German Society of Psychology (DGPs).

In order to provide students with optimal practical experience during their studies, the HSNR works together with practice cooperation partners from various industries such as medicine (technology), Health Care, business, education and public institutions.

"Applied Psychology - Specialization in Health" at the HSNR is aimed at anyone who wants to promote individual health. If you want to understand people's health behavior, this is the right place for you.

After completing this Bachelor of Science degree, graduates will have a wide range of career opportunities. For example, they can work in health promotion, prevention and counseling, occupational health and safety, human resources, mental digital health, public health and public health.

The course content includes basic subjects in accordance with DGPs standards such as social, neuro and developmental psychology, methodological subjects such as research methods and statistics, as well as applied subjects such as personnel and communication psychology. Specialization subjects in health psychology are supplemented by compulsory optional courses.

"The Hochschule Niederrhein is looking forward to training the next generation of specialists with this pioneering degree programme. They are urgently needed in the promotion of mental health in the healthcare sector," says Prof. Dr. Bernhard Breil, Dean of the Faculty of Health Care.
