Professor Dr. Georg Oecking and Professor Dr. Katrin Nihalani are the two newly elected chairs of the Senate of The Hochschule Niederrhein. While Oecking, Professor of Business Administration and Economics at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics, is already entering his fourth term of office, Nihalani is joining the Senate's leadership duo for the first time. The professor of Economics with a specialization in Health Care is a member of the Faculty of Health Care and has already gained experience in university management as a member of the University Council.

Georg Oecking and Katrin Nihalani will chair the Senate for the next two years. Both were unanimously elected at the constituent meeting last Monday. "Exciting times lie ahead for the university, and we will accompany them constructively and critically," said Oecking immediately after the election.

According to the State Higher Education Act, the Senate is involved in the election and dismissal of the Presidential Board. It must approve the planning principles for the university development plan, and changes to the basic regulations cannot be made without its approval. Alongside the Presidential Board and the University Council, it is part of the academic self-government.
