Staying at HSNR for an exchange semester

With almost 13,000 students, Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR) is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Germany.

Our students nevertheless benefit from small study groups and a good student-professor ratio.

HSNR has 9 faculties on three campuses located in the cities of Krefeld and Mönchengladbach.

A friendly and personal atmosphere on campus is very important to us; therefore on all our three campuses we offer a wide range of academic and non-academic activities for our students.

Many of our German-language degree programmes include modules taught in English, which are open to our exchange students.

Subject to prior agreement, it is also possible to select individual project modules or to write your thesis at HSNR.

We offer four degree programmes taught in English:

• Textile and Clothing Management B.Sc.
• Management of Textile Trade and Technology (M.Sc.)
• Sales & Marketing B.A.
• International Management M.A.

The international student community GLOBUS regularly organises networking events and recreational activities.

The university sports centre also offers a wide range of different sports, including yoga, football, chess, e-sport and capoeira.

The HSNR is also very well located in terms of local transport. Düsseldorf, Cologne or Aachen can easily be reached by train. 

Your university nominates you for one or two exchange semesters at HSNR by sending an e-mail to inboundexchange(at)hs-niederrhein.de.

The following information will be required:

• First and second name of the nominee
• Degree programme at home university
• Desired modules to be studied at HSNR
• Duration of the exchange period
• E-mail address of the nominee

Please note the following nomination deadlines:

• For a stay beginning in the winter semester: 15 May
• For a stay beginning in the summer semester: 15 October

Your university nominates you for one or two exchange semesters at HSNR by sending an e-mail to inboundexchange(at)hs-niederrhein.de.

The following information must be included in the e-mail:

• Surname of the nominee
• Degree programme
• Duration of the exchange stay
• E-mail address

Please note the following nomination deadlines:

• For a stay beginning in the winter semester: 15 May
• For a stay beginning in the summer semester: 15 October

No nomination by the university is necessary.

Students who would like to come to the HSNR as a free mover for one or two exchange semesters can contact us directly.

In consultation with the home university and the HSNR, an application is then made via our online tool Global Mobility.

• For a stay starting in the winter semester: 15 May
• For a stay starting in the summer semester: 15 October

As soon as we have received your nomination from your home university, we will send you a link to the online application.

For all German-language degree programmes, you need German language skills at level B2 CEFR (at least B1.2 CEFR at the time of application).

For all degree programmes taught in English, you need to have B2 CEFR level English (at least B1.2 CEFR at the time of application).

Please either enclose a corresponding certificate with your application or have your language level confirmed by a language teacher or a representative of your university.

Please prepare these documents for your application:

• Letter of motivation (e.g. Why did you decide in favour of HSNR? Why do you want to spend your exchange semester in Germany? What goals or expectations do you associate with your exchange stay at the HSNR?)
   
• Transcript of records in English (list of all achievements to date at your home university)
   
• Language certificate as proof of German or English language skills
   
• Curriculum vitae (CV)
   
• Portfolio (only for students of the Design programme, not Design Engineering)

ERASMUS+ students

If your home university works with EWP (Erasmus without paper), please fill in the courses you intend to take at HSNR into the online system of your home university; the information will then be transferred into the HSNR online tool.

In case your home university does not work with EWP, please contact us.

Non-EU students & Freemovers

Please fill in the digital Learning Agreement and upload it to the online tool.
