The SWK E2 -Institute ofEnergy Technology and Energy Management of the HSNR is part of the GREATER project (Growing Rwanda Energy Awareness Through HighER Eduction) in Rwanda.
The GREATER project aims at supporting Rwanda in the energy transition required for sustainable, social and economic growth of the country.
Activities and Duration:
In order to close the energy gap and provide equal access to electricity for the Rwandan population, an extensive use of renewable energy sources is planned.
The project was applied for together with three other European partners and officially started on January 1, 2023. By 2024, the government in Rwanda plans to provide 100% of households with access to electricity.
The project is funded by the European ERASMUS+ programme under the 2022 CBHE (Capacity Building for Higher Education) call. The project involves four Rwandan institutions (INES-Ruhengeri, Rwanda Polytechnic, University of Technology and Arts of Byumba and University of Rwanda) and four European institutions (University of Parma and National Research Council from Italy, Hochschule Niederrhein and Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg from Germany). Nine associated partners will support the project, including the Rwandan Ministry of Education and the main national companies active in the energy development market.
