Introduction of our university teacher / lecturer Prof. Dr. Arnd Verleger

Prof. Dr. Arnd Verleger, our new university teacher / lecturer for the module Investment and Financial Management, introduces himself in a short interview. Among other things, he gives an insight into his lecture style and shows why he considers the combination of theoretical content and practical knowledge to be useful. In addition, he gives students a valuable tip and explains how they can take away great added value from the modules of the MBA Degree programme.

What motivated you to teach at the Hochschule Niederrhein?
In addition to the MBA programme, I have been teaching in the dual degree programme "Banking and Finance" at the Hochschule Niederrhein for several semesters. I enjoy passing on a combination of theory and practical content to the students. Even as a student, I taught IT courses at a university and discovered for myself the joy of continuing training and imparting knowledge to younger people. Since one of the things I like about The Hochschule Niederrhein is the dual degree programmes on offer, which successfully combine practice and theory, I chose this university. Last semester, I held my first course in the MBA Degree programme.

How did you feel about your first courses at the Hochschule Niederrhein?
The pleasant learning atmosphere and the committed students had a positive impact on my first course. The friendly and helpful faculty at the university also made it easier to get started. The rooms at HSNR are equipped with a wide range of equipment, so that working and lecturing are simplified thanks to the extensive technology. I currently hold my digital events in lecture style, as I have noticed that discussions are comparatively more difficult in the digital space. Therefore, I would like to place more emphasis on discussions in future face-to-face events in order to stimulate exchange among students.

What can students expect from your lecture?
Thanks to 35 years of professional experience, I can provide my students with added value from my professional practice. Linking theory and practice is particularly important to me, so that students are not only introduced to the textbook material, but are also given practical examples of the various topics. In addition, I not only teach the subject matter, but also address the "practical life help". For example, students can look forward to tips on private wealth creation in my lectures. I also supervise master's theses.

What advice would you give first-year students of a career-integrated MBA?
I would like to give the students the advice that they should also regard the studies as an exchange at eye level. This means that they should take advantage of the available opportunities for discussion in order to gain greater added value from the courses. Since both the students and the contract lecturers have interesting and extensive experience, frontal teaching is largely eliminated and an exciting and informative exchange is created from which those involved can usually take away new insights. In addition, I would also like to introduce students to master's theses. If there is interest in doing this in the specialisation, students are welcome to contact me for tips or for supervision.
