Flash photography - technical and creative foundation courses with clip-on flashes

Start: Sun., 05.11.2023, 09:00 - 15:00 h
Course leader: Thomas Bocian
Course location: VHS am Sonnenhausplatz

What is a flash and what is it used for? The correct use of flash allows a lot of creative potential to get the best out of a motif, both professionally and privately. This workshop will cover topics such as sync speed, color temperature, on-camera and in-camera flash, and off-camera flash. For an advanced course and to be able to use the flash safely in the long run - both for direct and indirect flash - exercises will take place at different locations. In the afternoon, a professional model in various outfits will be at our disposal, so that lighting scenarios with several flashes, among other things, can be implemented together. The goal is to create the most authentic photos possible through the correct use of flash. In addition, the focus is on the right equipment: What really makes sense? How can I keep my acquisition costs low? Are there alternatives?

Course offer on the subject of Gladbach
November 4 (offered by the VHS in MG)

ChatGPT & Co.: Using AI models in everyday life and at work

Start: Tue., 07.11.2023, 18:00 - 19:30
Duration 5 dates
Course leader: Karl Boland and Hans Schürings
Course location: VHS am Sonnenhausplatz

The "Geschichtswerkstatt" deals with topics from the local contemporary history of Mönchengladbach and Rheydt and presents the results in lectures, city tours, exhibitions and book publications. The range of topics dealt with has become very broad over the years, but the approach is always based on the methods of social history and this with an everyday history perspective. Thus, the focus is on how differently historical events affected people, how different groups interacted (or did not) with each other, and how differently the people of Gladbach and Rheydt, for example, dealt with certain challenges in history.
As part of this series of events at the VHS, the "History Workshop" will present itself and, at the same time, five of its topics. After an input lecture, there will also be time and opportunity to delve into the historical local history yourself, using suitable historical material.

The Faculty of Health Care of the Hochschule Niederrhein was part of the DFG delegation trip with Dr. Lukas Streese on the topic "Health Care and Social Medicine Throughout the Life Course". The delegation passed representatives from universities all over Germany. Together, they visited four universities in the U.S. and discussed potential research collaborations and exchange opportunities for students. During the trip, Mr. Streese had the opportunity to present the diverse core research areas of the Faculty of Health Care at Purdue University, the University of Illinois Chicago, the University of North Florida, and Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU).
