Renovation of the textile campus

The State Secretary of the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Science, Gonça Türkeli-Dehnert, performed the symbolic ground-breaking ceremony for the new replacement building for the textile hall on our Mönchengladbach campus. This marks the beginning of the modernization of our Faculty of Textile and Clothing Technology.

The new building will improve the networking of the research and teaching buildings and promote innovation and sustainability. The sustainable design of the new building includes a solid wood construction, recycled clinker bricks for the façade and a green roof area with a photovoltaic system.

"The Hochschule Niederrhein is getting a wonderful new building. We need excellently equipped universities for outstanding teaching education and research. The new building will further strengthen the renowned and promising Faculty of Textile and Clothing Technology and make the university even more attractive for the brightest minds. The entire university landscape in North Rhine-Westphalia will benefit from this. This is where the specialists of tomorrow are being apprenticed. The state is very happy to support the construction of the textile hall as quickly and efficiently as possible. I wish everyone involved every success," said Türkeli-Dehnert.

Fairtrade University distinction

The Fairtrade Germany organization has distinguished us as a Fairtrade University for our commitment to fair trade. We are one of 44 universities in Germany that integrate products with high social, ecological and economic standards into everyday university life and promote fair trade.

In order to receive this title, we had to fulfill various criteria: We offer fair trade products in our canteens and snack vending machines in Krefeld and Mönchengladbach. At Senate meetings, we make sure that coffee is served under fair production conditions and that caterers use sustainable food. In addition, we regularly organize campaigns such as information stands on fair trade for our students.

"It is important to us to sensitize our students, as future decision-makers in our society, to sustainability issues in line with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. Fair trade is an important aspect of achieving these goals. By participating in the Fairtrade University campaign, we can introduce our students to the topic in concrete projects," says Cornelia Rohde, graduate ecotrophologist at the Faculty of Food and Nutrition Sciences at HSNR.

New dance series at the HSNR!
>>word can't go there<<

Prof. Dr. Felicitas Lowinski and Prof. Dr. Nicola Scherer have developed a dance series and have been able to inspire international choreographers and dancers as well as dance scholars to visit us in Mönchengladbach in the summer semester 2024 and winter semester 2024/25. An international scientific online dance panel will form the degree.

The dance series >>words can't go there<< aims to increase the visibility of the Degree program as a place for artistic and current cultural education impulses. The series aims to give students the opportunity to get to know transnational dancers in practical application and theory. To ensure the sustainability of the series, there will be interviews and panels as well as video content in addition to the practical workshops. The series will be realized with scientists from the HSNR and cooperating universities.

The workshops are open to everyone (all levels) and take place in the Theaterlabor, O E02, Mönchengladbach campus
