It was with great regret that we learnt that Prof. Dr Lutz Packebusch has passed away. Lutz Packebusch was the founder of the A.U.G.E. Institute at The Hochschule Niederrhein, our university's first research in-institute. As head of the Human Engineering degree programme, he trained young people in occupational health and safety in companies with an eye on increasing digitalisation. As an occupational scientist, people were always at the centre of his work. For him, efficiency and humanity were not a contradiction in terms, but a basic requirement for entrepreneurial action. Small and medium-sized companies in the region in particular benefited from his expertise in many ways - his projects dealt with age-appropriate work organisation in the skilled trades sector and workplace health promotion, for example. He headed the expert group on work design in the PASiG professional association and was also active in the DIN committee for mental stress, trying to establish a holistic socio-technical system concept.
Lutz Packebusch supervised countless students during their studies and doctorates and was involved in many national and international research projects. With his death, the academic community and The Hochschule Niederrhein have lost a highly esteemed, committed and forward-looking colleague.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family.
