The Deutschlandstipendium scholarship
Information for students

Hochschule Niederrhein. Your way.

Why you should apply

What does the scholarship offer?

The Deutschlandstipendium scholarship brings talented young people and employers together and gives the scholarship holders an excellent opportunity to shape their careers. We are targeting students with outstanding academic achievements or pupils with very good school results who would like to receive financial and non-material support from a company.

The sponsoring companies, in turn, get to know their scholarship students personally and, in addition to financial support, offer non-material support, e.g. through mentoring talks, company tours, in-house training, internships, theses.

The university has been offering the scholarship program very successfully for ten years. According to current figures, it has the most scholarships and sponsors among NRW universities.

Application process

You submit your application via the online application form. Only application documents submitted in full by the application deadline (April 1 to 30) will be considered.

Application Requirements:
  • Interest in non-material support. (e.g. internships, company visits, mentoring).
  • Minimum grade of 2.29. (The preliminary grade point average or the grade of the higher education entrance qualification is used as the basis for evaluation).
  • Study progress of at least 70% of the ECTS points attainable after the standard time to degree.
Example: You have completed exactly half of your Bachelor's degree (180 ECTS in total). According to standard time to degree you should have reached 90 ECTS points. For an application you need 70% of the achievable points, i.e. at least 63 ECTS points.
  • The standard time to degree must not have been exceeded
  • Enrolled at The Hochschule Niederrhein (Non-compliance, e.g. a late re-registration by the deadline, will lead to exclusion from the selection process!)
  • Application possible from the 1st semester onwards. For the grade point average to be achieved, the last report card is then used.
  • Funding in addition to BAföG possible
Special corona conditions

The standard time to degree has been extended, so you will not be disadvantaged in the event of any delays.
Of course, this also applies to your application for the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship. In the criteria of study progress and total standard time to degree, the pandemic-related extension will of course be taken into account.

When does the application round take place?

The next application round will take place from 01. 04. to 30.04.2022. If you meet all requirements, you can apply for the winter semester 2022/23.

This includes the interest in non-material support, a grade point average of at least 2.29 and 70% of the ECTS points to be achieved by the deadline. Please note: The calculation of the total ECTS points is not based on the complete duration of studies or standard time to degree. 70% of the points that could have been achieved at the time of studies must be available for the calculation.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions stipendium(at)hs-niederrhein.de.

Who can apply?

Students and pupils who are enroled at our Hochschule Niederrhein for the winter semester 2022/23 and meet the requirements can apply. These are: Grade point average of at least 2.2, ECTS points of at least 70% of the points achievable by the deadline and interest in the idealistic sponsorship. All Degree programmes are eligible.

This also includes new students, students on a second degree program and dual students who are interested in non-material sponsorship and the employer gives its consent. (see mandatory document "Status of employment")

Students with 1 semester of funding, if applicable, may also apply. All enrolled students of the Hochschule Niederrhein can also apply if they change from Bachelor to Master. If the Master starts in the coming winter semester, the standard time to degree of the Bachelor is no longer relevant.

It is always important that the standard time to degree is not exceeded by the coming winter semester (start of any funding).

Further information can be found in our application procedure, which will be updated for the next application round.

What are the required documents?

We require your online application, curriculum vitae (with photo), letter of motivation, employment status form (employer's consent if applicable), short assessment (except for students), copy of registration and copy of average grade (performance record and/or report card).

Voluntary evidence for the short assessment can be submitted additionally. This can earn you additional points in the ranking. Please send all documents to stipendium(at)hs-niederrhein.de within the application period.

For more information, please see our application process, which will be updated for the next application round.

How long does the (continued) support run?

The funding period depends on the standard time to degree and a possible end of studies in the summer semester. As a rule, this is 1-2 semesters. After that, there is no entitlement to automatic further funding. All scholarship students must always reapply for the winter semester.

The funding period of an application round is not planned to be longer than 2 semesters. Every year a new application procedure takes place in which all students submit a complete application. There a new decision can be made about further funding. The continuation of funding is not limited in time.

Resume and motivation letter?

The resume should be structured in tabular form. You are welcome to include your commitment and hobbies as well as your photo. In the letter of motivation, please briefly introduce yourself and outline your potential, specialisations and goals.

Please keep in mind in your documents that in case of a possible sponsorship, the CV and the letter of motivation will be received by your sponsor. Therefore, choose a "fictitious" sponsor for the letter and do not name any companies/foundations you would like to be sponsored by! (You can inform us of this using the priority information in the online form.) Please also pay attention to the general form of address "Dear ... ".

Background: Due to the number of applications and the complex matching process, we cannot take into account all the priorities of each individual applicant. Therefore, when submitting your application, you should be aware that we do not guarantee 1:1 funding.

You can find more information and help on the motivation letter in our application process, which will be updated for the next application round.

How are grades and ECTS points calculated?

We will receive the average grades from the Krefeld and Mönchengladbach examination office on the cut-off date (see website) based on your transcript of records. If you change to the Master's program in the winter semester 2022/23, the average grade of the Bachelor's certificate will apply.

Pupils can apply on the basis of their Abitur certificate (to be handed in at a later date) and the respective average grade.

The ECTS points are based on the course of study. By the deadline (see website) you must achieve at least 70% of your ECTS points. This does not refer to the total ECTS points of the complete studies, but only to the points you can reach so far.

I.e. if you are in the 3rd semester at the deadline and can achieve a total of 24 ECTS, you need at least 17 (16.8) ECTS points.

If there are any problems, e.g. with the registration of your grades, please contact your professor and/or the respective examination office. The selection committee of the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship does not have access to grades and ECTS points and therefore takes into account the information from the examination office as of the deadline.

Who needs to submit a short report?

All students of The Hochschule Niederrhein have to submit the short report as a mandatory document. Please contact a professor of your choice for this. For fair matching, students who are in their 1st semester at the time of application must also submit the form.

Students who will be attending our college for the upcoming winter semester and are applying prior to your registration do not submit a short report with their application. However, please take a look at the template and formulate your letter of motivation based on the short assessment. The selection committee of the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship of the Hochschule Niederrhein will use it to prepare a short assessment.

The document "Kurzgutachten" will be updated and made available on our website for the next application round.

Change from Bachelor to Master at SoSe

We will consider the Bachelor's degree in standard time to degree (in semesters) for funding from the winter semester 2022/23 onwards. At the next deadline, we will check whether a change to the Master's program will take place in the summer semester of 2023 and whether you continue to fulfill the requirements. If this is the case, the funding will continue for the further semester.

To do this, please let us know promptly after you have been notified of the following information/documents:

  • Submission of your Master's application (copy)
  • Date of your oral examination
  • Submission of your Master matriculation (copy)

If you change to the Master's program in the winter semester, your Bachelor's grade will be taken into account. For this purpose, please submit a copy of your transcript.

Special features Corona?

Short reports: During the difficult situation in the Corona Pandemic, we take into account short reports from university teachers / lecturers in addition to short reports from professors.

Standard time to degree: The individual standard time to degree is taken into account in the calculation, i.e. if your standard time to degree has been increased due to the Corona Pandemic, this is taken into account.

What are my chances?

All applications that meet the requirements have a chance of receiving the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship. The entire selection process, ranking and matching is very complex. Of course, we cannot predict the number of applications we will receive in each of our ten faculties. In addition, not all sponsors have been finalized during the application period and we hope to be able to attract additional companies and foundations.

We therefore welcome every application and are happy to help with any questions you may have about the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship.
