Mathematics Alignment Course
Fit for studies? Fit for mathematics?

Hochschule Niederrhein. Your way.

If you are beginning studies in the faculties 01, 03, 04, 05, 07 or 09, mathematics plays an important role in your Degree programme. Every year in the winter semester, we offer all first-year students in particular the opportunity to participate in the mathematics alignment courses. In seminars and coordinated tutorials, we review and practice with you the foundations courses in mathematics, from algebra, geometry, power calculations, and curve discussions to analytic geometry.

The content is based on your programme subject, but should be seen as a supplement and does not anticipate programme content. Active and regular participation will help improve your academic success in mathematics.

In order to help you assess your performance in this subject, we offer you a "placement exam" (see below for dates). In this written examination, you will be given tasks from school mathematics in grades 6 to 12, which you should be able to master without any aids. Take part in this placement exam!

Approximately one to two weeks after the written examination, you will receive an email. Depending on your score, it will recommend or not recommend that you take our "Math Alignment Courses". If you receive a recommendation, you will be notified of the time and place of the courses at the same time. In this case, attend the courses!

In faculties 01, 04, 05, 07, and 09, a final exam is also offered at the end of the course. Passing the placement exam or the final exam will count toward other modules in these faculties (some as a required credit).

Please note: Due to the pandemic, the placement exam and the courses in WS 20/21 will take place purely online.
