SUSTAINABLE MATERIAL DESIGN – Fashion & AI

…In combination, in relation, in connection with …the hand. In short: what is the distinction of the new course

‘In brief’, the new course ‘Sustainable Material Design’ will give the open-mindness to reflect design methods to create the new, with old technics and sometimes in co-designing with new technics in demanding the value of 3D, AI, and the creation tools via Augmented Realities – connected.

Material- / Design-Thinking in applications and the sustainable material behaviour (circles) are the aims of this course in a playful way. Without examen’s stress, getting new – embodied – experiences in ideating and evaluating our doing – ‘by hand in combination’, because the hand is connected, combined with so many elements – not only to our brain.

The course is using different design methods in relation to get a feeling to technics and systems, related to the past – old crafts has to be questioned – and the future, in experimenting with materials and tools related to other perspectives… to the Media Turn & and Cultural Turn.

We are delighted to welcome our new colleague, Prof. Joel Horwitz, in the winter semester of 2026/27 with a keynote talk: “Can we rethink the design and manufacture of sportswear to make it more sustainable? A talk that explores various approaches to sustainability in sports performance and shows how virtual product development can help to reduce resource consumption.”

Guest speakers and excursions making the design-theoretically new knowledge handlebar with ‘Thinking in Systems’: like Donella Meadows speaks to us from the past, when she was asking ‘what is driving the driving factor’ in sustainable design?
Let’s get started. Create the new in combination to the pasts’ knowledge in Fashion and Textile AND Material Design – sustainably.
