Dr. Johannes Pollmanns | HSNR 2008 - 2014

Doing a doctorate at a university of applied sciences

Johannes Pollmanns studied not so long ago - when there were still paper scripts for all lectures at the beginning of the semester. Students could obtain these from the faculty student body.

Since he himself was involved in the faculty student council, he remembers very clearly how much paper was wasted on this. And many a student was tempted to simply study for an examination on the basis of the script, which usually turned out to be only partially recommendable. However, his time on the faculty student council was also marked by the many friendships that developed during this time and the opportunities that opened up for him in the faculty, such as various jobs as a graduate assistant. He was also able to hone his organizational skills by planning freshman parties or the annual Glühweinumtrunk. After graduating, Johannes Pollmanns, who studied Health Care Management from 2008 to 2014, first in the Bachelor's and then in the Master's program, remained with the Hochschule Niederrhein as an academic staff member at the Competence Centre for Routine Data in Healthcare. He additionally completed his doctorate during this time and wrote his cooperative dissertation at the University of Witten/Herdecke. He is very grateful to his mentors at the Hochschule Niederrhein at the time, Prof. Drösler and Prof. Weyermann, as well as the dean at the time, Prof. Neukirch, for this opportunity. Today, Johannes Pollmanns works as a project manager for health care projects at the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians North Rhine. Since the beginning of the Corona pandemic, his exciting and varied field of work has been supplemented by tasks relating to COVID-19, e.g. as part of the vaccination campaign. If he were to study again, he would choose similar again, because the subject Health Care with its three specialisations Management, Medical Informatics and Health Sciences with numerous compulsory modules now offers much more scope for specialisation. However, he could also imagine pursuing a degree in computer science, because knowledge of Big Data and database structures is highly relevant to his field of work.

However, the very best memory that accompanies Johannes Pollmanns from his studies to this day is his wife, because he met her during his studies at the Hochschule Niederrhein. The Hochschule Niederrhein has shaped his life in many ways to this day.
