In-memory databases
Implement big data applications efficiently

Hochschule Niederrhein. Your way.
About the certificate course

Many companies are currently facing the challenge of having to process an ever-increasing volume of data. The right information should be available at the right time in the right form, quantity and quality for the respective users in the company - and in just a few seconds. Traditional relational database systems often reach their limits with these requirements. Modern database models do not store their data on conventional hard disk storage, but use the main memory directly for this purpose. This allows significantly higher access speeds to be realized and consequently shortens and efficiently supports operational decision-making processes.
This certificate course demonstrates the potential of big data applications based on in-memory technologies for a company and the open questions and hurdles that exist.
You will work on case studies with the SAP HANA in-memory database and can discuss individual questions from your own company with the university teacher / lecturer and experienced peers.

Course objectives

Upon successful completion of the course you will be able to:

  • Know the latest in-memory database technology.
  • Differentiate between traditional and modern database models.
  • Assess the implementation of various application scenarios when using in-memory databases.
  • Evaluate the opportunities and risks of in-memory databases.
  • Solve problems using various case studies with the help of an in-memory database system.
Advantages
  • You will learn about in-memory technologies to develop data-driven applications and improve operational decision-making processes.
  • Realistic application scenarios and practical examples are presented.
  • You will benefit from a direct practical transfer by working on an individual question on the use of an in-memory technology.
Target group

The certificate course is aimed at specialists and managers from all sectors in the fields of information management, organization and process management,...
...who are responsible for the strategic planning of information architectures in a company.
...who define information systems and processes in companies and coordinate their use.

Form of teaching and learning

The interactive seminar-style course offers the opportunity to address individual questions and problems posed by participants. Case studies
are offered for each knowledge block. The presentation of the results enables direct practical transfer. An online learning platform supports the learning success.

Three questions for your university teacher / lecturer, Prof. Dr. Schmitz:

Why is continuing education in "in-memory databases" currently of interest to many professionals?
"A large amount of mass data is generated every day, both in the private and professional sphere. Processing and analyzing this data also requires changes in database structures in order to create the technical prerequisites for significant improvements in business processes and decision-making in all functional areas of a company."

What are you particularly looking forward to on this university certificate course?
"The contact with practitioners who are active in this context or are planning to invest in this area."

And what can participants look forward to?
"To learning about topics with a practical emphasis / orientation."
