Content and structure of the degree programme

The programme content is the same as that of the existing full-time degree programme.

In the Business Information Systems (B.Sc.) part-time degree programme, you will acquire

  • Broad knowledge and skills in business informatics, computer science and business administration,
  • Required knowledge of maths, business English, economics and IT law as well as
  • key qualifications such as teamwork, presentation techniques and rhetoric

are taught. Six compulsory optional modules can be selected in semesters seven and eight to customise your studies. Two modules each are assigned to the areas of "Application Systems" and "Software Technology" and one module each to the areas of "Business Administration" and "Computer Science". Parallel to the compulsory optional courses, a practical phase must be completed in the sixth semester. This gives students an insight into everyday work situations and allows them to further test the knowledge gained in their theoretical apprenticeship in practical application. The thesis must be completed in the eighth semester. The degree programme concludes with an oral examination for the thesis.

The Degree programme is modular, with each module concluding with a performance assessment for which corresponding credit points are awarded.

Course of study

The part-time programme of study is the career-integrated version of our faculty's existing full-time degree programme. Part-time students are integrated into the existing semester groups. The Part-time Business Informatics degree programme pathway (PDF) provides a basis for orientation. A two-day university stay and three practical days in the company are planned over the course of the degree programme. The degree programme is career-integrated and is completed after eight semesters standard time to degree (in semesters).

Typical job profiles

The job prospects for business IT specialists are extremely varied and can be found in almost all sectors of the economy. From the IT sector (e.g. software companies or management consultancies) to the manufacturing industry, credit institutions and insurance companies to service and consulting companies, qualified business IT specialists are in high demand everywhere. This includes, for example, qualified activities and management tasks in IT or business administration, preferably in the fields of organisation/systems analysis, programming/software development as well as consulting and sales, but also interfaces to the media, e.g. web applications or social media.
The distinction between a degree from a university of applied sciences or a university degree is almost irrelevant for most fields and activities today.
