Our research focuses on the use of light for different applications for solidifications of coatings. Photoinitiators covering the UV, visible and NIR range belong to our most investigated targets.

LEDs and NIR lasers have been the most employed light sources in our projects to cure coatings.

In addition, new functionalized monomers and binders have been additional interesting fields in our research.

Both, research with focus on fundamentals of photopolymerization and applied aspects of photopolymerization have been key fields in our research.

Inhouse theses

Why go somewhere else when you can get the best support in the coating laboratory.

In principle, it is possible for us to conduct theses in-house. This guarantees optimal supervision and the possibility to use modern methods (e.g. NMR spectroscopy, GPC, viscometry, elemental analysis, ultrasound). Furthermore, there is the possibility to use the infrastructure of the ILOC. Selected topics can also be worked on in cooperation with the HIT of the Hochschule Niederrhein as well as with the cooperation partners.

This can be done on the following topics, which have a strong relation to research:

- controlled tailor-made synthesis of polymeric binders

- polymer networks

- synthesis and characterization of new monomers and prepolymers for paint applications

- light as the smallest reagent and tool
