The placement test is the important starting point for your course enrollment:
No language course enrollment is possible without a placement test!
In order to determine your current language level - and thus to determine your entry into the Technical English module in FB01 - all first-year students take a computer-based placement test at the Language Center on the Krefeld South Campus at the beginning of the winter semester. The test consists of multiple choice questions and is completed in a maximum of 60 minutes.
You can register for a test date independently, online via the course catalog LSF. In the structure tree, select the earliest possible date under English: FB01 - Mandatory Placement for First Semester, Bachelor, taking into account the maximum number of participants. Guideline Registration->
Please make sure a few days before the test date that you have been admitted by the Language Center. If your registration has been cancelled due to the maximum number of participants already reached, please trigger the registration for another date.
Meaning of the status abbreviations in LSF (see LSF timetable):
Please be sure to observe the specified enrollment deadline (= enrollment period).
Based on your placement test result, the Language Center will assign you to your first course (see chart above Modules in FB01). If you reach the required level, you will start directly with the first compulsory course, which will be credited with ECTS points. In case of a lower placement result, you enter the required bridge module as preparation and complete successive courses until you reach the B2 level.
Please note that the timing of course enrollment varies depending on the type of degree programme and placement result (Full-time, Part-time, Dual). Therefore, you will be informed regularly and in time, during the first academic year, by the Language Center.
Make sure you check your university mailbox regularly!
It is strongly recommended that you take the two compulsory courses according to the degree programme pathway, as the course capacities are each based on the students in the first and second semester (or second and third semester for dual / part-time students).
You can always find your course assignment or course allocation online in the course catalog LSF under 'My functions' - Schedule of classes!
Calling up the allocation via LSF
The placement in your first course and also the subsequent courses are always displayed online in the course catalog LSF for your inspection.
After logging in with your university ID and password, you have access to your personal timetable, in which all courses that are maintained via this system are entered. To do this, select My functions at the top and then Timetable on the left.
The schedule for the first semester is available approximately 1 week before the start of the lecture period.
For instructions on how to retrieve your course schedule via LSF, please follow the link.
Late course entry or course participation not possible at all?
If you show up late or do not show up at the first course date, you run the risk of losing your course place! At the beginning of the course, the attendance of the participants will be checked and waiting list participants can move up to your place, unless you have informed the Language Center of your lateness or absence in time.
If you are unable to attend the course at all for an important reason, it is imperative that you contact the Language Center as early as possible for advice on starting and running your module.
The following must be completed to successfully complete the course:
Test performanc e
via the learning platform moodle (link to your course room in the individual course view online in the course catalog LSF) or on site at the Language Center.
Information about your eLearning component will be announced in the course and via the learning platform.

Important! Examination registration for compulsory courses required
The final exam for the two compulsory courses will take place on a separate date approximately 2 weeks after the end of the course. Registration in the online service for students is absolutely necessary! Please note the registration deadline!
When you register for the exam, you are initially "subject to reservation - not admitted"!
Your status will change to "admitted" as soon as the required course attendance certificate (abbreviated in module list: attendance certificate) and "eLearning" could be verified. Exam date and room can be found in the entry of your course online in the course catalog LSF.
Course repetition due to 'attendance certificate ' (abbreviated in module list: attendance certificate) .
Please note that if you do not meet the testat 'Attendance' you will have to repeat the whole course and in this context you will have to resitall subtest performances (presentation, term paper, oral performance) taken in the course.
Voluntary course repetition
Even in the case of voluntary course repetition (subject to availability of places), the following applies: all the above-mentioned partial examination performances must be taken again as part of the course .
Repeat Exam
For students of PO 2017 it is possible to repeat only the written examination in case of failure, as soon as the test achievements "Attendance" and "eLearning" have been fulfilled. In this case, the Language Center Krefeld recommends making an appointment for exam review and consultation.
All successful course participants receive a course certificate for their language course in German and English, including final grade.
You will find out your exam result via the online system and via the certificate.
The certificate can be picked up at the Language Center (in room B403c) upon presentation of your student ID and during the specified opening hours.
When the certificates are ready for collection can be found in the short comments field of the individual view of your course online in the course catalog LSF.
You are welcome to view your written examination!
This is especially recommended if you have failed your examination.
Please register for an appointment at the Language Center Krefeld (opposite room B403d) at the Krefeld South Campus.
Please note that the lead time is at least 3 working days and that your written examination must already be available at the Language Center. A corresponding overview of the written examinations received can be viewed next to the deadline list.
