Glass workshop
Design

Hochschule Niederrhein. Your way.

The glass workshop is characterized primarily by work with flat glass. The work in the glass workshop extends to the formal shaping of the flat glass by cutting, lowering and/or fusing. The finishing of the material by drilling, grinding and especially sandblasting also characterizes the possibilities of the glass workshop.

Equipment:
The equipment of the glass workshop includes three glass furnaces, a glass cutting table, a belt grinding machine for glass, a plate grinding machine for glass and a sandblasting cabin.

Glass up to a thickness of 25mm is cut in most cases with carbide glass cutters. Round and contour cuts are also possible.

Glass and ceramics can be machined with diamond-tipped and water-cooled drills.

Flat glass can be formed three-dimensionally in Glassen furnaces on coated ceramic or stainless steel molds. Other refractory substrates, e.g. pours, can also be used.

In a blast cabinet, surfaces are matted or deep blasted. Areas that are to remain smooth are covered with elastic materials, e.g. foils.
