Model making workshop wood
Design

Hochschule Niederrhein. Your way.

Model making is an indispensable prerequisite for the design process in order to be able to verify concepts, functions and forms. The Model Making Workshop Wood offers the best opportunities to implement experiments, working models, functional models and prototypes for consumer goods and appliance design, furniture design or even for scale models in trade fair construction and other spatial and environmental contexts. Students are taught basic skills in handling model materials and their processing techniques. Models of various types can be made independently and under supervision in the workshop.

Equipment:
The wood model workshop is located in a light-flooded room of about 200 m² with a very pleasant working atmosphere in the shed hall. In addition to all standard woodworking machines, the machinery also consists of two woodturning machines, two stationary routers, a vacuum press and a laser cutter.

In the wood model workshop we have two woodturning lathes, these can be used very versatile in model making. As a rule, rotationally symmetrical objects are produced, but eccentrically turned parts can also be created. The following materials can be processed: wood, plastics, horn and alabaster.

The universal model milling machine FZ 1 has proven itself for the production of smaller, precise model fixtures as well as for cast resin model making. The trouble-free freehand milling (e.g. face milling), as well as the effortless and precise machining of workpieces made of wood, cast resin and light metal with attached support particularly distinguishes this machine type.

The laser is an ideal cutting and engraving system which is very popular in the faculty 02. Typical applications are architectural model making, acrylic and display production, engraving, sign making and ... much more.
