Model workshop plaster
Design

Hochschule Niederrhein. Your way.

The plaster model workshop is used for model and mold making in the sense of serially manufactured (fine) ceramic products but also free/sculptural objects. The most common operations include the pouring of plaster (for portioning and drawing in the manner of the stucco artist...), the further processing of plaster (carving, grinding...) as well as the molding of models or other objects (classical mold making or free sculpture). Similar to the ceramics workshop, this workshop area provides the basic design courses as well as the project-related studies with a formal freedom in terms of plastic expression.

Equipment:
In addition to a number of universal workstations (worktables with stone tops), students have access to 12 model-making turntables, some with stencil holders.

Turning on the modeling turntable
In model making with plaster, the skills of the craftsman are developed above all on the traditional techniques that can be felt very directly. The material to be subtractively processed is drawn, carved or turned on the modeling turntable in the stucco plasterer's manner, depending on the objective.

Mold making
The molding process in ceramic materials usually requires a suitable tool for serial products - the mold. The production of plaster molds for new developments naturally requires the range of a large repertoire from classic pouring molds to unconventional, multi-part molds, for which equipment and personnel know-how are available.
