Dr. sc. med. Lukas Streese

Hochschule Niederrhein. Your way.
Therapeutic Sciences Academic staff / Postdoc

Dr. Lukas Streese studied sport and performance in his Bachelor's degree and sport and exercise gerontology in his Master's degree at the German Sport University in Cologne. During his studies, Mr. Streese already worked at the Psychological Institute of the German Sport University as an academic staff member and participated in various research projects. Following his studies, Mr. Streese completed his doctorate at the Medical Faculty in Basel. He went through the PhD Program in Health Sciences (PPHS) of the University of Basel and was employed in the Preventive Sports Medicine and Systems Physiology of the Department of Sport, Exercise and Health (DSBG). Under the supervision of Prof. Henner Hanssen, Mr. Streese was responsible for conducting the Exercise, Arterial Crosstalk-Modulation, and Inflammation in an Aging Population (EXAMIN AGE) study. As part of this study, Mr. Streese completed his PhD summa cum laude in July 2019. Subsequently, Mr. Streese continued to work in sports medicine at the DSBG and was responsible for various research projects as well as teaching education in the DSBG's Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes. Since 01.01.2022, Mr. Streese has been employed as part of the FH personnel program at the Hochschule Niederrhein and the University Hospital in Düsseldorf. Within this programme, Mr. Streese will teach education in the Degree programme Applied Therapeutic Sciences at the University and continue his research at both the University and the Uniklinik.

Core research areas.

Mr. Streese's research focuses, among other things, on the effects of sport and exercise on the vascular system. In this regard, Mr. Streese has already published various international papers in high-ranking journals. Mr. Streese studies children and adolescents as well as healthy adults and various patient clientele. A specialisation of his research is the development of sensitive non-invasive methods for the assessment of cariovascular risk, which are able to diagnose the effects of exercise therapy on the vascular level. Due to the many national and international cooperation partners, Mr. Streese is also able to investigate various mechanistic approaches.
