Working in healthcare IT is exciting because we can support nursing staff and doctors in their work with the help of IT. This means optimizing existing solutions and developing, evaluating or introducing to software. In this way, we contribute to a networked Health Care system.

With a practical emphasis / orientation

As a university of applied sciences, we place great emphasis on practical experience! Contact with real employers is not just an advertising slogan, but with us you will work on real projects with hospitals and IT companies from the region during your studies. This allows you to deal with questions and real problems in practical applications and gives you direct contact with employers in the region. You also have the opportunity to complete an internship semester there or write your Bachelor's thesis, for example in one of these fields of activity:

Programming | IT project management | Network technology | Medical technology | Telemedicine | Management | Requirements engineering | Software industry | Hospitals | Self-government | Health insurance companies | Pharmaceutical industry | Medical device manufacturers

Good prospects

In networked Health Care, we qualify students for interdisciplinary cooperation and impart knowledge ranging from medical foundation courses and management to the programming and use of eHealth applications. Through our practice-oriented teaching education, you will acquire skills such as software development, project management and process analysis. Building on this, you will learn to apply this knowledge methodically and systematically to problems with a practical emphasis / orientation. To this end, basic knowledge relevant to the profession is taught, taking interprofessional skills into account

In order to achieve this, it is not enough to simply know computer science - as a medical informatics specialist, you must also understand the healthcare system and the players involved, be familiar with national and international standards and have a good insight into medicine.

Individual

Regardless of whether you are already a computer scientist and would like to develop your skills further, or would like to combine your apprenticeship directly with studies: we have a suitable study format for every stage of your career, namely part-time studies. In this variant, you can combine your vocational training with two degrees in four years, e.g. as an IT specialist specializing in system integration. You will have a contractual training relationship with a training company and will be at the university two days a week. If you work at the same time, you have a contractual employment relationship with a company and come to the university two days a week.

Direct support

At The Hochschule Niederrhein, you are not just a number. We attach great importance to an optimal supervisory relationship - and this can only exist if you have direct contact with your professors. And not just once a month during Consultation hours. Our lecturers are always available for you, your lectures are so small that the university teachers / lecturers know you by name. This has the advantage that you get all your questions answered directly, work directly with your supervisors on small projects and thus achieve optimum learning success.

Dilek Aydin (34), Städtisches Krankenhaus Nettetal GmbH

I'm studying medical informatics because I want to help ensure that we have modern IT systems in hospitals that support users. I also like the mix of Health Care and IT.

Christoph Springenberg (32), IT specialist

For me, the MI degree programme is the perfect mix of theoretical background knowledge and practical content. It provides crucial skills in the interface between medicine, computer science and business, which I was able to use in projects early on in my studies.
