De- Reconstructed Fabrics as the future Solution for Fabric Waste

Can fabric remnants from the textile industry be transformed from patterns, offcuts or old garments into fashionable highlights? The Hochschule Niederrhein students of the Faculty of Textile and Clothing Technology show how it can be done! As part of their semester project entitled "De-Reconstructed Fabrics as the Future Solution for Fabric Waste", they developed innovative solutions to transform fabric remnants into wearable fashion.

The idea came from students Shern Goh and Sofie Andersson, who, together with their team, used techniques such as weaving, knotting and twisting to produce new materials from textile parts supposedly declared as 'fabric waste' - almost without a sewing machine. Their approach makes it clear that new creative fashion can be made at home from old fabrics or old clothes, with the aim of promoting and advancing the idea of upcycling and inspiring others to join in. True to the motto "turn garbage into new".
