Hochschule Niederrhein. Your way.

Avati - A collection from nature

We are team 8 of the 5th semester projects at the Hochschule Niederrhein. Our task was to develop a biobased shirt collection in a closed loop system in collaboration with the Dutch company Arapaha.
Inspired by the landscape in Paraguay and the vision of a change in the fashion industry, we designed 4 shirts made of the 100% bio-based raw material PLA, which is fully recyclable. PLA is mainly derived from corn, which inspired the surname of our collection "Avati" - "corn" in the Paraguayan Guaraní language. The organic shapes of the shirts are highlighted by an ultrasonic welding machine, and information about the environmental benefits of the products can be found in their digital product passport, accessible via the printed QR code.
The goal was to design the shirts to have the least impact on the environment at every stage of their lifecycle - manufacturing, use, reuse and recycling - and we are pleased to share the result.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the university and its professors for their support throughout the process and for giving us the opportunity to work on such an innovative project.
