The qualification position towards your UAS professorship

Have you ever thought about passing on your expertise and already gained professional experience through a UAS professorship and at the same time advancing further core elements in your field? The project "Tandem Niederrhein" offers you the opportunity to turn your profession into a vocation after you have completed your doctorate. Through a flexibly adaptable commitment in teaching education, research and practice, you can help shape the future of your field through self-determined work and inspire and motivate young people along the way.

On the way to your professorship, you will complete the Tandem Niederrhein project by working with a cooperation partner from the region for 3-4 years. Half of the time you will acquire teaching skills at the Hochschule Niederrhein, do research in your field and the other half you will gain professional experience in the partner organization, which is required for the professorship. After this path, you will have achieved all the requirements for participation in an appointment procedure.

What do you need to consider?

These are full-time positions. Participants are accompanied by two mentors who are close to the subject. An advanced training, mentoring and coaching program will prepare you for the challenges of working at a university of applied sciences. The scope of the teaching activities will be 4-8 lecture hours per week (SWS) in coordination with the respective faculty. Participation in projects and proposal writing is encouraged.

Research

The project Tandem Niederrhein enables you to do practical research with a practical emphasis / orientation on current developments and challenges in the industry.

Mentoring

During the project, you will be accompanied by two subject-related mentors who will support you in all areas on your way to a professorship.

Professional Practice

The Tandem Niederrhein project places a strong focus on the combination of theory and practice. To enable a practical orientation for this professorship, you will work closely with a cooperation partner from the region for the practical part of the project.

Coaching

Individual coaching sessions are available to help you achieve your professional and personal goals.

Teaching

The Tandem Niederrhein project includes a wide range of courses in which you will impart and pass on your in-depth specialist knowledge as well as practical skills.

Advanced training

You will be offered training so that you have the opportunity to continue your education and keep your knowledge and skills up to date.

The Tandem Niederrhein project gives you the best of both worlds:

Your previous experience to extend professional practical activities on a scientific level outside the university and to strive for the path towards your professorship.

Science

The Tandem Niederrhein project focuses on expanding your applied knowledge and deepening your subject expertise. This includes the studies of current research projects/results, the analysis of scientific studies and the development of innovative methods to solve challenges.

Professional Practice

The practical component of the Tandem Niederrhein project offers you the opportunity to apply your theoretical knowledge in the real world. This includes working with companies and organizations to implement practical projects within these institutions. You design these projects, participate in them and thus make an important contribution to the development of innovative solutions, products or processes. You will offer this added value to a cooperation partner from the region. We will work with you to find a suitable partner or suggest one to you. The partner should be within easy reach of the university.

Questions about the requirements

It is okay if youhave already gained some professional experience, but if you have been working for 3 years or more, you cannot be sponsored because you will already have the necessary professional years, provided they are relevant. The rules of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (Science Temporary Contract Act) apply.

When does a hiring take place?

We will hire you as soon as the dissertation has been submitted and you have time to take on new challenges. The certificate can be submitted at a later date. We recognize subject-relevant employment relationships after the degree for the classification of the pay scale group. This is only relevant to a limited extent for an appointment. The years of employment after the degree and outside of academia are important. However, occupations at non-university institutions after the doctorate are relevant professional experience. You will be employed as academic staff on a temporary basis for the duration of the project.

Are there one or two employment contracts?

It is more favorable from a tax point of view to have only one contract. You are employed 100% at the university and seconded to the cooperation partner. The company contributes to your salary costs. A cooperation agreement between the company and the university regulates the details of the collaboration. The employment relationship is limited for the duration of career path/qualification phase.

Questions about the cooperation partner?

You fulfill an activity at a cooperation partner that corresponds to your qualifications and that expands your experience for a future subject area.

The location of the partner can be anywhere, but for practical reasons within reach of the university or your place of residence, because regular courses are held in presence. But no daily presence at the university is necessary.

Is the project a tenure track?

The Higher Education Act in NRW does not permit junior professorships or tenure track programs at universities of applied sciences (UAS). The program is carried out in more than 90 UAS from all federal states. You can apply to us after this qualification program or also to other universities of applied sciences in Germany. In individual cases, people can also complete the qualification program if there is no subsequent appointment process at our university. Please note that the federal states have different Higher Education Laws.
