HNX - Your way to start up!

Hochschule Niederrhein. Your way.

StartUp: eeden

Eeden is revolutionizing the textile industry: high-quality fibres are created from used textiles.

From lecture hall idea to start-up!

From HSNR studies to the stage of the Impact Festival: eeden's journey

It is the moments of insight in the lecture hall that sometimes lay the foundation for revolutionary ideas. For Reiner Mantsch, a graduate of The Hochschule Niederrhein (HSNR), it was the desire to tackle the serious problem of textile waste. With co-founder Steffen Gerlach at his side, eeden was born - a start-up whose ambitious sustainability vision was recently honored with the prestigious Impact Award.

"What makes the most sustainable T-shirt?" Reiner Mantsch, a former student at The Hochschule Niederrhein, started the practical project for his textile technology degree with this question. As part of his research, Mantsch discovered the frightening reality of the worldwide dumping of used textiles and the lack of recycling options. This was the trigger for him and Gerlach to develop a process that would enable the efficient recycling of used textiles. Their pioneering chemical upcycling technology bridged the gap between academic research and practical implementation - and enables used textiles to be used as the resources for new, high-quality textile fibers.

The initial practical project has since turned into a dynamic company that has attracted millions in investments. The two-man operation has grown into an impressive team of over 15 industry and technology experts dedicated to innovation and sustainability in the textile industry. Its latest triumph, the Impact Award distinction, underlines the importance and impact of eeden's vision. And is a living example of how the interplay of academic apprenticeship and entrepreneurial initiative produces solutions to pressing environmental problems. It serves as an inspirational message for the next generation of HSNR students, whose vision and commitment can make a significant impact on the world of tomorrow.
