Digital Zero Waste and 3D-Printing in Fashion
A unisex design in terms of sustainability and innovation in the fashion industry
Coach: Prof. Dr. phil. Dipl. Des. Marina-Elena Wachs, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Mathias Muth, Hochschule Niederrhein

This Bachelor's thesis deals with the digital development of a sustainable unisex outfit. According to the principle "one-size-fits-most" environmentally friendly fashion was created; both from the side of the cut, the material, as well as against the background of the gender issue.Building on the knowledge of the compulsory course "Design Methodology Fashion" - in which the students learn to create zero waste cuts and to implement them visually in CLO 3D - the cut design of the collection "Hero of Dystopia" by Nora Sproten for jacket, pants, top and bag of the outfit was developed holistically without waste, waste or real prototype.
Circularity, sustainability and inclusion of all gender identities are at the heart of Ms. Sproten's designs, whose innovative design character is also expressed in the incorporation of eco-friendly 3D printing. Structures made from 3dk.berlin's biodegradable material WillowFlex were printed between the coat's shoulder blades, inspired by the bone structure of seahorses. These symbolize the pollution to be stopped and due to their sequential hermaphroditism also the unisex element.

Thanks go to the Textile Academy NRW, which made its premises available for photos, and to 3dk.berlin, which provided partial material support for the project.
