Balance sheet management
Success with recipient-oriented design

Hochschule Niederrhein. Your way.
About the continuing education programme

Balance sheet analysis is a key tool for determining a company's creditworthiness. Even though the balance sheet is regulated by law, there are design options. The prerequisite for targeted balance sheet design is a sound knowledge of how addressees read balance sheets.

Goals of the continuing education

The continuing education "Balance sheet management - with recipient-oriented design to success" opens up a new perspective on your own balance sheet design. In the future, you will be able to prepare balance sheets in a recipient-oriented manner and be more confident in credit negotiations. This negotiation competence is specifically promoted by integrated discussion coaching.

Upon successful completion of the continuing education programme, you will be able to:

  • Assess balance sheets from the perspective of lending banks.
  • Evaluate the liquidity situation of the company in a well-founded manner and be able to identify potential for improvement.
  • Identify business optimization opportunities on the basis of the balance sheet and derive suitable measures, taking into account interdependencies.
  • To represent one's own position - with the help of conceptual preparation - more confidently in credit negotiations.
Target group

Individuals whose responsibilities include financial statement management in small and medium-sized businesses.

Teaching and learning education

The original knowledge transfer takes place in the form of a classic seminar. Accompanying exercises immediately link what has been learned with practical knowledge, which promotes a sustainable learning process and facilitates transfer to your own company. Three questions for your lecturer, Prof. Dr. Ralf Ostendorf:

Why is continuing education in balance sheet management currently of interest to many professionals?
For many people, balance sheets are a closed book - but that doesn't have to be the case. Those who can read balance sheets are, for example, in a position to analyze their competitors and interpret changes in accounting. In addition, entrepreneurial activity is dependent on outside capital. Banks play a key role in this field for small and medium-sized enterprises. At the same time, banks are confronted with increasing requirements of banking supervision law, so that the hurdles for credit approval are rising. Thus, it is also important for the survivability of the companies to anticipate the evaluation of the balance sheets by the banks.

What are you particularly looking forward to in this continuing education programme?
I particularly enjoy working with highly motivated learners who critically question content and contribute their own examples. In the area of balance sheet analysis, one's own financial statements can serve as a research object.

And what can participants look forward to?
Lively events with a high level of practical relevance. At the same time, the events are largely animated, so that the joy of learning is not neglected.
