Aim and structure of the studies

Objective of the studies
The Master's degree programme in Business Management (MBM) has a clear objective: to qualify you to sustainably shape transformations in companies and business-related organisations throughout your entire professional life. These transformations result from the dynamic environment of companies and are particularly characterised by technological, ecological and social changes, such as the digitalisation of living and working environments and the challenges of the climate crisis.

We prepare you for management tasks in organisations on the basis of sound specialist and methodological knowledge and relevant future skills. Our degree programme takes a competence-oriented approach and places particular emphasis on the development of so-called "future skills", i.e. the skills and abilities that you will need for your professional life in the coming years - across all sectors and industries. In addition to "classic competences" such as leadership skills, we focus in particular on change competence, sustainability competence and digital competence.

Structure of the studies
Your chosen specialisations form the core of your studies. You can choose from "Strategic Procurement Management", "Controlling", "Human Resource Management" and "Marketing". You choose two of these specialisations in the 2nd and 3rd semesters according to your personal interests and professional goals. Four modules per specialisation address current topics, such as "Digitalisation and Sustainability in Procurement", "Resilience and Self-Management in Human Resource Management", "Business Intelligence and ESG Reporting" or "Sustainability and Diversity Marketing".
Detailed information on the individual modules can be found in the illustration.

The specialisations are framed by compulsory courses on topics such as "Sustainability Management" and "Digital Business". This ensures that the important topics of the future run through your entire curriculum.

A special feature of your studies is the "Social Project", in which you get involved in promoting the common good, e.g. through volunteering, a research project on social responsibility or by supporting student initiatives. In the spirit of "Future Skills", you will learn how to transfer your business skills to other areas of society.

Time compatibility
The Master's degree programme in Business Management Part-time is aimed at students who wish to combine their studies with work or other commitments. In terms of content, it is the same as the full-time degree programme, but differs in its flexible timetable.
In the first three semesters, only one day per week is usually scheduled for attendance. In addition, block seminars are offered either at the beginning or end of the semester, so that you can continue to pursue your professional activities on the remaining four days.
From the 4th semester, the specialisations begin, which take place two days a week. Some digital content is also offered here. The exact course days are announced in August for the winter semester and in February for the summer semester.
In the 6th semester, the focus is on the Master's thesis and the oral examination. The Master's thesis can be designed with a practical orientation and combined with your professional activity.

Semester abroad

  • Flexibility in your choice of university:

You have the choice between the programmes offered by our partner universities in the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics or you can choose another university abroad as a so-called "free mover".

  • Requirements for admission:

To take part in the semester abroad, you must have earned at least 20 ECTS credits during your studies. This ensures that you have sufficient academic foundation courses to make the most of your international experience.

  • Scope of the stay abroad:

The semester abroad comprises 30 ECTS credits, which is equivalent to a full-time study load. If you have already earned at least 20 ECTS credits in examinations and can document your experiences during your stay abroad in a written experience report submitted no later than six weeks after the end date specified in the notice of admission, your successful participation will also be recognised in this way.

A semester abroad not only offers the opportunity to expand your academic skills, but also allows you to develop intercultural competence and expand your global network. We are therefore happy to support you in this exciting project.
