Welcome to the Faculty of Design at the Hochschule Niederrhein. If you are interested in an exchange semester at our faculty, you have come to the right place. The following initial information should answer basic questions.
About us
The Hochschule Niederrhein is integrated into a network of international partner universities. Students of FB Design regularly spend study semesters abroad. In return, the Faculty of Design receives several exchange students each year, mostly within the Erasmus program or through bilateral agreements.
Studies at the Faculty of Design offer two Degree programmes:
- Communication Design
- Product and Object Design
Application
Students who wish to apply to the Hochschule Niederrhein should do so through their own university.
To be accepted, applicants must have completed at least two years of their studies by the time their semester abroad at the Hochschule Niederrhein begins.
In addition, they should have sufficient knowledge of German.
There are two application deadlines per year:
- May 1 for applications for the upcoming winter semester.
- November 1 for applications for the upcoming summer semester
The application consists of:
- Portfolio (max. A4 format)
- Curriculum vitae
- Letter of motivation
- Application forms (You are welcome to use the application forms of your own university).

Financial
Students from a university cooperating with the Hochschule Niederrhein via the Erasmus program or via bilateral agreement are exempt from semester fees.
Accommodation
The International Office has reserved rooms for visiting students in the dormitories at the place of study. You will receive more information about this with your acceptance letter.
