Student Degree Programme Counselling

Hochschule Niederrhein. Your way.

Student Degree Programme Counselling at The HSNR

Student Degree Programme Counselling is an individual, confidential and voluntary counselling service for students that is anchored throughout the university and successfully implemented in every faculty. It offers all students the opportunity to discuss problems and questions relating to their studies in a timely manner in resource- and solution-oriented counseling sessions. The aim and task is to support students in their studies and to work on the framework conditions for successful studies at the university.

In addition to advising, the Student Degree Programme Counselling offers services at the commencement of studies and throughout the course of studies. For example, it is responsible for organizing the introductory week(s) for first-semester students at the university as well as tutorials and revision sessions in the respective faculties. It also offers students support with topics such as learning and academic work and organizes the "Late shift - long evening of unprepared examinations and unwritten texts" every semester.

Our consulting services

Questions, e.g. about the course of your studies, are discussed in individual, confidential meetings. The aim is to help you help yourself, i.e. you will learn strategies on how to plan and carry out your studies independently and successfully. After all, studies do not always go according to plan. Changes can occur, unforeseen things happen, obstacles suddenly appear, questions cannot be clarified...

We offer you advice and support for your personal academic success!

Workshop "Tips and tricks in wiss. writing"

On 10.01.24, 20 - 21:30, Ms. Malecha-Konietz offers an online workshop on "Tips and tricks in wiss. writing".

Practice makes perfect, but a few tricks can't hurt either. The workshop will not be about foundation courses or technical matters, but about (self-)organization before, during and after the writing process. Students can take part at any stage of their studies, but it makes sense to already know a few basics.

You can find the Zoom access data in the corresponding Moodle course:

Moodle course: TuT Wiss. Schr.

Enrollment key: TuT_Schreiben

Learning plays an essential role in the success of your studies. In addition to our offers in the faculties and individual learning advice, you will also find a small selection of tips on learning in general, various learning methods, time management and exam preparation in the download area. If you have any questions in this regard, please do not hesitate to contact us.

For some time now, there has also been an entire self-study course on the Moodle learning platform, "EASI - Studying made easy", in which you can check and expand your knowledge on the subject.

Open-book written examinations

Academic writing must be learned and practiced. This is why the Student Degree Programme Counselling - in addition to advising - offers helpful tips here.

Some faculties and the late shift also offer events on this topic.

Tutorials & revision courses - learning in small groups

In almost every degree program, there are subjects that pose a major challenge for many students. Student Degree Programme Counselling therefore offers support in the form of tutorials and revision sessions.

  • In the tutorials, students with specialist and didactic training are provided with advanced course content and practical orientation.
  • Qualified revision tutors support small learning groups on the topic of "how do I learn best", often with reference to specific examinations and written examinations. This offer is primarily aimed at students in their 2nd and 3rd attempt. The aim of the revision sessions is to support students with major difficulties in preparing for exams.

Which tutorials and revision sessions are offered when and how varies from faculty to faculty. Please refer to the respective homepage, the course catalog or, if necessary, your Student Degree Programme Counselling.
