An impassioned plea – a reading by Christina Clemm

On 15 November, the Equal Opportunities Officer at the Hochschule Niederrhein, in collaboration with the Orange Mönchengladbach initiative, is hosting a reading with Christina Clemm.

The event begins at 7.00 pm at the AWO’s L64 Education and Training Centre in Mönchengladbach-Rheydt (doors open at 6.30 pm).

Christina Clemm is a family law specialist and criminal defence lawyer who has been fighting for decades to uncover the truth for those affected: on behalf of relatives, victims of abuse, those who have been trafficked, and rape victims; and for justice in cases of gender-based and racially motivated violence. She makes it clear why what is discussed in courtrooms concerns us all.

The focus of the evening will be her new book, *Ein ungehaltenes Plädoyer* (An Indignant Plea). In it, Christina Clemm writes about what provokes indignation: every case touches on central social issues – racism, sexism, migration, hatred, anger, grief, guilt and punishment – and extends far beyond the legal system. In this deeply personal plea, she takes us into the courtroom, shows where we as a society are failing, and opens up perspectives on a future built on solidarity and justice.

Christina Clemm gets to the heart of uncomfortable truths: violence is not an isolated incident, but is closely linked to the social conditions in which it arises. Her book shows what we should know about this – and what options we have for taking action.

About the author: Christina Clemm (born 1967) is a lawyer specialising in criminal and family law in Berlin. For almost thirty years, she has been representing victims of gender-based and racially motivated violence. Her book *Akteneinsicht – Geschichten von Frauen und Gewalt* was published in 2020, and her most recent polemic, *Gegen Frauenhass*, was published by Hanser Berlin in 2023.
