The EPWUF-KI project aims to improve the quality of care and healing outcomes for patients with diabetic foot syndrome (DFS) and chronic wounds while reducing the workload of outpatient nursing services. To achieve this, a hybrid system solution is being developed, comprising various components such as a sensor-based pressure relief aid, a smartwatch app, a web interface, and a mobile application for wound documentation and automated AI-based wound measurement.
In a feasibility study involving 40 participants, aspects such as wound area reduction by 50%, documentation time, and quality of life will be evaluated. Participants in the intervention group will receive audiovisual alerts when a critical pressure threshold is exceeded.
All collected data will be compiled on a web interface for use by nursing and medical professionals. The project builds on the success of the previous EFRE project "iFoot," which received the Bytes4Diabetes Award in 2021. The extended concept leverages the benefits of artificial intelligence, specifically aiming to support the outpatient nursing profession.
