Students who are identified by outstanding academic achievements, special social commitment or above-average motivation are to be sponsored by the HONOUR program.

In the HONOUR program, support is defined as the promotion of interdisciplinary cross-sectional competencies, so-called future skills, i.e. skills that are becoming increasingly important for professional life and social participation, such as judgment, sustainability and reflection competencies, the ability to collaborate and work in a team.

The HONOUR program usually runs for one year and starts annually in November with a kick-off event.

The following program contents are run through:

• December: Participation in the team building day for the service learning project (one day).
• February/ June: Participation in a seminar as part of the Winter Academy (optional Summer Academy) and participation in a World Café (one day)
• March: Work on a concrete service learning project (2 weeks in the lecture-free period) incl. design thinking workshop

Students with outstanding studies will receive an invitation to the program from the faculty.

In addition, all students at HSNR with a high level of social commitment or with a strong motivation to take on social responsibility and participate in the program can apply.

The first project group, whose turn it was in the final presentation, had put together an art exhibition entitled "Each For Equal" for International Women's Day on March 8. For this, they had teamed up with the Soroptimists - an international service club for professional women. While the acquisition, logistics, concept and marketing were the responsibility of the 6 students, Flinta artists supplied the exhibits.

Five other students, together with the Krefeld 2030 city initiative, are calling for the "Lower Rhine Ideas Competition 2023". Students from the Hochschule Niederrhein, Rhein-Wal, Düsseldorf, Aachen and RWTH Aachen universities are to submit their start-up ideas, from which a jury will select the best six and invite them to pitch.

A group of five is planning to sustainably renovate a vacant residential building for residential and community purposes. Together with BUND Krefeld, they are working on a socio-ecological concept that would allow students to live there for free or at a low rent in return for their involvement in community tasks.

The next group of five had the task of developing an image film and an accompanying advertising campaign under the title "Students educate pupils" in order to recruit volunteer students to tutor pupils. To do this, they interviewed willing volunteers and edited the sequences to a suitable length.

Gruppe 5 worked with the non-profit association Queers an der Niers, which runs its own center for people from the LGBTQAI community in Mönchengladbach. In order to generate more interested parties and members, the trio ensured that the association gained more visibility and reach via its Internet presence and specially created flyers, posters and stickers.
