Smart textiles

Textiles with integrated electronic functions, e.g. for sensors or actuators, preferably for the medical or care sector. Of interest here is the optimization to the highest possible integration depth of the function into the textile substrate, so that, for example, a thread itself becomes a sensor (e.g. for humidity).

Functional textiles

Integration of functions such as radiation protection, antimicrobial effectiveness, catalytic or adsorbent functions into textile substrates. Development of new additives and application processes for these functions, again with the aim of achieving a particularly high level of integration. This can be achieved, for example, by synthesizing catalysts directly on the textile fibers.

Sustainability

Investigation and evaluation of naturally occurring substances as substitutes for synthetics. Naturally occurring substances are considered to have great potential, which is justified in some cases. On the one hand, the identification, characterization and optimization of such substances for functionalization or dyeing processes is of interest, but also the critical consideration of the limits of such systems in terms of performance and biocompatibility.

Information flows and research

Science communication is becoming faster and more flexible; this development continues. It is interesting here to investigate which structures emerge, in which spaces which paradigms are discussed, whether there are compatibilities and exchanges between the spaces or new compartmentalizations emerge and who has access there. How do authorities emerge, how are they legitimized and who recognizes them? Which forms of discourse establish themselves and, if any, displace others?
