Hochschule Niederrhein

The Senate is responsible for the following matters in accordance with § 22 HG NRW:

• Participation by its members in the university electoral assembly in the election and deselection of members of the Rectorate;
• commenting on the annual report of the Rectorate;
• Issuing and amending the basic regulations, framework regulations and university regulations, unless otherwise stipulated by the HG;
• Approval of planning principles within the meaning of Section 16 (1a) sentence 1 HG NRW;
• Recommendations and statements on the draft university development plan pursuant to Section 16 (1a) and the university contract pursuant to Section 6 (3) HG NRW, on the evaluation reports pursuant to Section 7 (2) and (3) HG NRW, on the business plan, on the principles of the distribution of positions and funds among the faculties, central academic institutions, central operating units and the medical institutions.
• Recommendations and statements on matters of research, art, teaching education and studies that affect the entire university or central institutions or are of fundamental importance.

The University Council advises the Rectorate and supervises its management. Its tasks include in particular

• Participation by its members in the university electoral assembly in the election and deselection of members of the Rectorate;
• approving the draft university contract in accordance with Section 6(3) and the draft university development plan in accordance with Section 16(1a);
• the approval of the business plan, entrepreneurial university activities in accordance with Section 5(7), the establishment of a foundation, an institution or a university association in accordance with Section 77a(1), the submission of the application in accordance with Section 2(8), insofar as this is aimed at the transfer of building ownership and ownership responsibility for the entirety of the properties transferred, and the assumption of other tasks in accordance with Section 3(8);
• the supervision of the economic management of the Rectorate;
• Recommendations and statements on the Rectorate's statement of accounts in accordance with Section 16(3) and on the evaluation reports in accordance with Section 7(2) and (3);
• recommendations and opinions on matters of research, art, teaching education and studies that affect the entire university or central institutions or are of fundamental importance;
• the adoption of the annual financial statements, the resolution on the appropriation of the annual surplus or the treatment of an annual deficit and the discharge of the Rectorate.

(§ 21 HG and § 8 Basic Regulations of the HN)

The university has a modern, efficient and service-orientated administration. It is ensured that resources are used sustainably and the associated processes are applied in a service-orientated and efficient manner. This means that those involved in teaching education, studies, research, transfer and continuing education can be optimally supported.

The University Communications Department is the interface between the university and the media, between academics and journalists. We regularly inform the public about everything important that happens at The Hochschule Niederrhein using press releases, our homepage, various social media channels and the university magazine NIU. We put media representatives in contact with experts at our university. We help members of the university to communicate with the public and support the creation of print and media products in the university's corporate design. We organise central events, help with the application of your event and manage the university shop.

The Hochschule Niederrhein's Communications Department is the central internal and external contact and reports directly to the President of the Hochschule Niederrhein. It plans, coordinates and develops the university's marketing activities and ensures that The Hochschule Niederrhein has a uniform overall image both internally and externally in order to publicise the achievements of its members.

Sustainability means acting in a resource-conserving and responsible manner with a view to future generations and is a key issue of our time. We are committed to the principle of sustainability in teaching education, research and organisation - as formulated in our University Development Plan 2022-26.

The Hochschule Niederrhein has appointed a Sustainability Officer to fulfil this commitment.

Data protection is intended to protect individuals from having their right to determine the disclosure and use of their data (right to informational self-determination) unduly impaired by the processing of personal data by The Hochschule Niederrhein. The personal data of all university members (professors, academic and non-academic staff, students, guest lecturers, etc.), research participants, suppliers, visitors, etc. are protected.

The Hochschule Niederrhein operates a management system for occupational health and safety, abbreviated to AGUM. AGUM stands for Occupational Health and Environmental Management and is a process-orientated management system. It is intended to support members of the university in exercising their rights and duties in occupational health and safety.
