Organization

According to § 22 HG NRW, the Senate is responsible for the following matters:

• Participation through its members in the university electoral assembly in the election and deselection of members of the rectorate;
• Opinion on the annual report of the Rectorate;
• Enactment and amendment of the basic regulations , framework regulations and regulations of the university, unless otherwise stipulated by the HG;
• Approval of planning principles within the meaning of § 16. para. 1a sentence 1 HG NRW;
• Recommendations and opinions on the draft university development plan pursuant to § 16 para. 1a and the university contract pursuant to § 6 para. 3 HG NRW, on the evaluation reports pursuant to § 7 para. 2 and 3 HG NRW, on the economic plan, on the principles for the distribution of positions and resources among the faculties, central academic institutions, central operating units and the medical institutions.
• Recommendations and statements in matters of research, art, teaching education and studies that affect the entire university or central institutions or are of fundamental importance.

The University Council advises the Rectorate and supervises its management. Its tasks include in particular:

• participation by its members in the university electoral assembly in the election and deselection of members of the rectorate;
• the approval of the draft university contract according to § 6 paragraph 3 as well as the draft university development plan according to § 16 paragraph 1a;
• the approval of the economic plan, of entrepreneurial university activities pursuant to Section 5 (7), of the establishment of a foundation, an institution or an association of universities pursuant to Section 77a (1), of the submission of the application pursuant to Section 2 (8), insofar as such application is directed to the transfer of the building owner's property and the owner's responsibility for the entirety of the transferred real estate, and of the assumption of other tasks pursuant to Section 3 (8);
• supervision of the economic management of the Rectorate;
• recommendations and opinions on the rectorate's accountability report pursuant to Section 16 (3) and on the evaluation reports pursuant to Section 7 (2) and (3);
• recommendations and opinions on matters of research, art, teaching education and studies that affect the entire university or central institutions or are of fundamental importance;
• the adoption of the annual financial statements, the passing of resolutions on the appropriation of the annual surplus or the treatment of an annual deficit, and the discharge of the rectorate.

The university has a modern, high-performance and service-oriented administration. It is ensured that resources are used sustainably and that the associated processes are applied in a service-oriented and efficient manner. As a result, the actors in teaching education, studies, research, transfer and continuing training can be optimally supported.

The University Communications Department is the interface between the university and the media, between academics on the one hand and journalists on the other. We regularly inform the public about everything important that happens at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences using press releases, our homepage, various social media channels and the university magazine NIU. We put media representatives in touch with experts at our university. We help members of the university to communicate with the public and support the creation of print and media products in the university's corporate design. We organise central events, help with the promotion of your event and manage the university shop.

The University Communications Department is the central point of contact both internally and externally and reports directly to the President of the Hochschule Niederrhein. It plans, coordinates and develops the university's marketing activities and ensures that the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences has a uniform overall image both internally and externally in order to publicise the achievements of its members.

Sustainability means acting in a resource-conserving and responsible manner with a view to future generations and is a central issue of our time. We are committed to the principle of sustainability in teaching education, research and organization - as formulated in our University Development Plan 2022-26.

In order to live up to this commitment, The Hochschule Niederrhein has appointed a sustainability officer.

Data protection is intended to protect individuals from having their right to determine the disclosure and use of their data unlawfully impaired by the processing of personal data by The Hochschule Niederrhein (right to informational self-determination). The personal data of all university members (professors, academic and non-academic staff, students, guest lecturers, etc.), research participants, suppliers, visitors, etc. are protected.

The Hochschule Niederrhein operates a management system for occupational health and safety, abbreviated AGUM. AGUM stands for Occupational Health and Environmental Management and represents a process-oriented management system. It is intended to support the members of the university in exercising their rights and compulsory occupational health and safety.
