Many children of elementary school age today have lost their connection to fresh, unprocessed foods and their preparation. In order to reintroduce them to food, students from the Faculty of Food, Nutrition and Hospitality Sciences, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Bödeker and Dipl. Oecotroph. Cornelia Rohde have developed the children's cooking course "WiKiKo - Wir Kinder kochen" (WiKiKo - We children cook ) for the afternoon program at open all-day elementary school. In a playful way, the children gain practical experience in handling fresh food, learn preparation techniques and acquire knowledge about healthy nutrition. Since the 2005/06 school year, two students have been cooking with eight children once a week at the Burgbongert all-day elementary school in the Odenkirchen district.
WiKiKo" has now been awarded the second prize of €1,000 in the " Strong Kids" network competition organized by AOK Rheinland to promote children's health.
Due to the great demand and the enthusiasm of the children, the WIKIKO project will not only be continued in the coming school year 2006/07, but also a guideline will be developed, with the help of which interested parties can carry out "WiKiKo" at other schools and institutions.
The following students worked on the WIKIKO project:
Andrea Brütsch, Sarah Dostert, Sabrina Gieswinkel, Katrin Harnacke, Kristina Heinzel, Sabine Klischat, Clarissa Olszok, Stefanie Poterala, Galina Schmitke, Susanne Schwank, Lara Sibum, Sabrina Sillmanns, Patricia Sopalla, Annette van Storch, Monika Terhaag, Michaela Vogt
