The content of the studies is based on three specialisations:

• Foundation courses in professional midwifery
• Responsibility and control of complex midwifery activities
• Clinical-practical competencies (practical phases)

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are able to perform activities in practice-, organization- and research-related fields of activity on the basis of scientific findings. The studies pursue an empirical-scientific approach by imparting midwifery skills and enabling students to act in an evidence-based obstetrical manner. The degree leads to qualification for admission to a relevant master's degree program.

In the dual studies, theory and practical phases alternate. The examinations for admission to the profession take place in the last two semesters of study. The studies conclude in the seventh semester with the Bachelor's thesis and the oral examination.

For the duration of the studies, the students sign a contract with a cooperating practical institution in advance of the studies, where most of the practical assignments are completed. Both the practical phases and the theory phases are modularized and take place in fixed blocks. The student receives an appropriate training allowance from the practice institution with which he or she has concluded the contract for academic midwifery training. The examinations for admission to the profession take place in the last two semesters of study. If the student passes, he or she receives professional certification upon completion of the studies.

• Entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences (school and practical part)

• Other previous education recognized as equivalent with three years of professional experience, e.g. as a health and (children's) nurse
• If applicable, proof of the required knowledge of the German language

Special enrollment requirements

To be presented to the cooperating practice institution:

• Proof of health suitability(form template).
• Proof of good conduct certificate
• Proof of contract for academic midwifery training with a cooperating practice partner

To be presented to the university at the time of registration:

• Submission of the certificate mentioned above at the time of registration.
