Making decisions consciously

Hochschule Niederrhein. Your way.
About the continuing education programme

As a manager, you have to make many decisions every day. Among them are issues that need your special attention, because your decisions are meant to persist beyond the day and must be carefully weighed. Decisions are often based on a mix of the analysis of the current situation, the specifications for the target state, personal previous experiences, our own current stress level and the influence of the people around us. Therefore, conscious decision making always has two components, a methodical part and a self-reflective part. In our continuing education programme "Making decisions consciously" you will learn to consider these two components in order to make decisions with which you feel comfortable and which at the same time will last longer.

Goals of the continuing education

You will learn the background of decision making based on the findings of decision research as well as recent brain research. In addition, you will learn methods of decision-making that originate in particular from the coaching context and offer you concrete assistance for your everyday work. In addition, you will discover your own decision-making patterns.

Upon successful completion of the continuing education program, you will be able to:

  • Analyze decision-making situations.
  • Apply methods for decision-making.
  • Recognize your own blockades in the context of decision-making.
  • Track down your own "decision-making patterns and criteria".
  • Establish new patterns of decision making.
Target group

Executives, junior executives, works and staff councils, employees with decision-making responsibility from companies, administrations and organizations

Three questions for your lecturer, Prof. Dr. Kristina Reitz:

Why is continuingeducation on decision-making currently of interest to many professionals?
In everyday working life, many decisions have to be made every day. However, there is usually no time to reflect on one's own decision-making behavior or to prepare (important) decision-making situations with appropriate analysis tools. This course offers the opportunity to do so.

What are you particularly looking forward to in this continuing education program?
I particularly enjoy looking at concrete decision-making situations of the participants together in a respectful manner and with a "twinkle in my eye".

And what can the participants look forward to?
A mix of theory and practice, seriousness and laughter, head and feeling.
