Research at the Faculty of Chemistry

The research and development projects at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Hochschule Niederrhein are very complex. R & D tasks are carried out in the specialisations of the Faculty of Chemistry and in the ILOC institute.

Institute for Coatings and Surface Chemistry

The Institute for Coatings and Surface Chemistry (ILOC) of the Hochschule Niederrhein in particular sees itself in its public and industrial research and development work as a regional innovation center with a focus on coatings chemistry, coatings technology, chemical engineering, green polymer materials , biophysical chemistry of surfaces and analytics and measurement technology for surfaces. The institute is thus an impulse generator and problem solver for companies and institutions.

Technical Chemistry

  • Stirring and Mixing Technology: The optimization of stirring and mixing technology processes is one of the most important tasks in Technical Chemistry. We pass on our extremely extensive expertise in this area in teaching education and to interested companies.
  • Fluid and Particle Flows: Everything is in motion! The description of fluid and particle flows is our concern.
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD): Flow simulation is the future of modern apparatus and equipment design methods.
  • Flow Field Measurements: Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF), Shadowgraphy, and high-speed camera imaging in what is believed to be the world's only state-of-the-art facility for non-contact measurement of velocity, temperature, concentration, and pH fields are available in our laboratories.
  • Gas hydrates: We develop technical application potentials of gas hydrates, e.g. flow insurance (inhibitor research), gas storage, gas transport, gas separation and processing, energy production, wastewater treatment and seawater desalination, heat storage, hydrogen and biogas handling, carbon dioxide disposal.
